Nettle salve is made with nettle leaf, aka stinging nettles.  Nettle is a bitter, astringent herb with anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine, anti-oxidant and pain-relieving properties.  In one study, participants, who suffered from musculoskeletal pains, got relief from a topical nettle cream.  These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
