Whipped body butters are super-rich and great for your skin. They're very effective at rejuvenating dry, damaged skin; and can be applied all over or just on problem areas, such as elbows, knees, or the heels of the feet. Although you can use them any time of the year, they’re especially beneficial during these cold winter months. This recipe is a bit time-consuming, but so worth it. It yields about 10 ounces of butter.

Materials Needed:

  • 2 oz. Unrefined Coconut Oil

  • 4 oz. Unrefined Shea Butter

  • 4 oz. oil of your choice, such as apricot, almond, or jojoba. (If you have herbal-infused oils on hand, try those. I used a blend of lavender and calendula infused-oils.)

  • 1/2 tsp. Vitamin E

  • Optional: essential oils of your choice; go here for a few ideas

  • Double Boiler

  • Hand-mixer and beaters

  • Large Mixing Bowl

  • Spatula and spoon

  • Jars with lids

  • Labels

Directions:

  • Measure Coconut Oil and Shea Butter; and place in the top of a double boiler.

  • Melt on low heat.

  • Add in the oil, and vitamin E before the mixture melts completely.

  • When oils have melted, remove from heat.

  • Let oils cool a few minutes, then transfer to a large mixing bowl.

  • Place bowl in the refrigerator for 55-60 minutes.

  • Remove bowl from refrigerator; and if using essential oils, add them in (2 to 10 drops per ounce).

  • With a hand mixer, whip on the highest speed for 2-3 minutes.

  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap; and place bowl in refrigerator for another 20 minutes, or until the mixture hardens around the edges.

  • Remove bowl from refrigerator; and again, with the hand-mixer, whip the mixture on the highest speed for several minutes until soft peaks form.

  • Place bowl back in the refrigerator for another 5-10 minutes to let it set.

  • Remove from refrigerator.

  • Scoop out body butter and place in jars.

  • Label jars with the name of the product and the list of ingredients.

  • Store in a cool, dark place for longer shelf-life.

After your bath or shower, slather this body butter onto your skin and massage in. Your skin will appreciate this luxurious treat!
